no one else can make you change.”

Individual Therapy

One-on-one therapy is about 70% of my practice. Initially we’ll explore where you are in your life, your needs and goals and what you truly want. We’ll assess the options and develop an individualized treatment plan for your journey.  Only then does real treatment begin, the journey we’ll come to share each step of the way. The goal of treatment is to reduce symptoms, increase resilience and create hope.

Family & Couples Therapy

Long-standing, deep relationships have a powerful influence on our well-being. Relationships under stress affect everyone involved, so I work with everyone involved in the healing process.  Generally, the initial approach is the same as Individual Therapy but with the group or couple. I help with communication, empathy, acceptance and honesty. In therapy we look at problems clear-eyed, openly and without judgment. Ultimately, healing comes from and through those in relationship. This does not always make relationships as they were. In fact, the point is allowing the relationship to make or adjust to change. It does not necessarily mean a family or couple remains together or is reunited. It does allow families and couples to deal with problems, loss, go through change, let go of anger, resentments or distrust and move forward with life and love.

Group Therapy

Groups are my favorite form of therapy. Tapping into the goodness of spirit, the love, kindness and courage groups offer is an amazing opportunity for growth and healing. Sharing is the way we come to know ourselves. Seeing the light in others is how we recognize it in ourselves. By sharing giving and receiving each person opens themselves to self-acceptance and self-healing through acceptance of the love they have denied themselves. Groups are an excellent way to process grief, manage behaviors and provide support through the light and love they create and share.

Hello! I’m Connie

Licensed Certified Social Worker – Clinical, LSCW-C

My earliest memories are as a caregiver, capable beyond my years. As I grew others came to me for love and support and, over time, I came to realize my calling was to help others with crises or long-standing personal or family problems. Making that my life’s work was natural and easy for me. Throughout my career I have loved, and still love, helping others as much as I ever have.

You’re reading this because you’re looking for change and for help. Your desire for change and your willingness to ask for help are the most important steps. You’ve already taken them.

Walking with and holding space for those seeking change is such an honor. From many years’  experience with those, like you, seeking personal and profound change, I understand this journey is best not taken alone. Walking  together in a therapeutic relationship is a true union between two souls.

My husband and I moved to Easton in 1977 and I began my career as the therapist at Bethany House, a local residential treatment center for adolescents. Even now I’m stopped on the street or in local stores by middle-aged men and women who ask, “Do you remember me, Miss Connie?” I remember all of you.

I’ve led clinics, won multiple awards and made significant contributions to our community. But those achievements aren’t as meaningful to me as the personal journeys I’ve shared with thousands, like the new journey we’ll begin when you take your next step and walk through the door for your first appointment. That act of courage can become the loving miracle only you can create for yourself.

My Expertise

I’ve worked with thousands of clients, each with a unique life-story,  the most important work I’ve ever done and still love to do.

Since 1977, I’ve supervised hundreds of clinicians and mentored hundreds of graduate students. I’ve worked throughout the Eastern Shore and know our communities well. I’ve learned from brilliant clinicians and have continued to learn to become an excellent therapist. The first step, the most important aspect of my work and the one I like best, is building the therapeutic rapport with you. The very best clinicians are those that have those skills. I’ll always offer you my very best, I know you deserve nothing less.

My Approach

I’ll start by listening and getting the full picture. I’ll then explain different approaches, first with a broad brush so you’ll understand the range of choice and then in more detail as the choices narrow. We’ll go over your questions, I’ll explain my thinking and give you my recommendations. We’ll then develop a treatment plan that seems to fit best for you.  As you can imagine, treatment plans differ widely depending on many circumstances.  For example, for a client with trauma, EMDR, hypnosis, CBT and other treatment options are available but the question is which one or what combination is likely to work best for that particular client.

I’ll challenge you to take risks in treatment by trying whatever’s likely to work best for you, but my most important responsibility is to develop and maintain your sense of safety. That’s essential to your progress because it allows you to take the next steps on the journey.  So, when risks are taken and fear and foreboding seem to lurk in the shadows, I’ll be there by your side each step of the way. Together, we’ll bring the light to shine away the darkness.
